Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine

we bought a home 5 years ago. all paper work indicates that the home was built in 1960, we recently went to put the home up for sale and the realtor indicated that city recordss show that it was built in 1920..do we have any recourse?

At the time you purchased the home 5 years ago the same tax assessor and City records were available to you. I would now review them personally and not rely on the realtor's intrepretation. The appraisal and home inspection you would have had 5 years ago also would/could have addressed the age of the home. If you still have the prior seller's Disclosure it would be interesting to see how the representation was made about the age of the home, but, unless there is specific damage to you regarding this issue, there is effectively no recourse. Some buyers like older homes due to their period features. The best factors for market value should be condition of home and location, not necessarily age alone. Perhaps the home was built in the 1920 and underwent a major renovaiton or expansion in 1960.
