Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine
Deeding Property
I have purchased 200 acres of land in upstate Maine. I am building a cabin on the property and would like to invite my family to do likewise, but with the stipulation that they cannot sell (should they choose)what they build to anyone outside of the family?

Re: Deeding Property
One obvious answer that you have probably already thought of is to just lease to each family member a specific area and the lease will allow them to construct a building. The lease cannot be assigned or subleased, and the building will become your property when the lease ends. It can be for any time period, automoatically renewable unless cancelled.
If for some reason you want to actually deed off specific land for them to build, the deed should have a right of first refusal for you to repurchase if they try to sell to anyone else.
