Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine
Paying for winter snowplowing
I've owned a woodlot since the mid 70s and when I bought the property there were no restrictions, covenenants, or road association. A couple years ago a road association was formed and I am expected to pay for road maintenance, which I don't mind paying my fair share, and I am also expected to pay for snowplowing in the winter, which I object to. I have no house, camp, or any reason to go to my lot in the winter. My question, is can the association legally put a lean on my property if I don't pay the winter plowing portion of my bill? Thanks for any help.

Re: Paying for winter snowplowing
The question is difficult to answer without reviewing the actual road association agreement. However, if you signed such an agreement, you effectively imposed those rights and responsibilities upon your land, and if the agreement provides for lien enforcement of unpaid bills, than it can legally be done if the others in the association want to actually do so.
