Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine
Property lien
My home is for sale. A lien was placed on it a few years back for an absurd amount of money, for a ridiculous reason, and while house was in only ex-husbands name. I do not want to pay this lien. The house is now in just my name. (quit claim deed) Is there any way to avoid paying this lien?

Re: Property lien
The transfer of the property from your ex-husband to you was subject to liens existing on it at that time. If your ex does not take care of the lien and get it removed, the creditor is entitled to enforce it when you sell the house and maybe you can negotiate some settlement or reduction but I do not see how you can get it waived based on the information you submitted.
