Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine

property taxes

We own a condo in a five condo complex. The condo docs have recorded the correct square footage for each condo but the square footage for three of the condos are incorrectly recorded at the tax assessor's office. One is recorded as having 1,000 plus more square footage and two are recorded as having a few hundred less each. (Ours is correct) In addition to having an impact on property taxes paid, does this discrepancy impact the association, as a whole in any way? What should be done about it?

Re: property taxes

So long as the Plat and Pans are correct, I cannot think how the association is affected by an error as to individual unit measurements in the assessor's office. Town tax info is wrong about all kinds of things including boundaries, sq feet, etc. because the purpose of those records is for creating tax and not otherwise establishing or affecting the rights of the property owners or their neighbors.

The unit owners should each go in with the corect info and request the record be corrected, which may require a site visit.
