Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine

Purchasing a condo

My mother and I are purchasing a

condo and have been told, in writing,

by the real estate agent that dogs

are allowed. Now we hear that

according to their ''rules and

regulations'' not their by-laws, dogs

are not allowed. If we buy the condo

can the other owners do anything

because we have a dog?

Re: Purchasing a condo

The real estate agents' misrepresentation may give you a valid reason to back out of the contract, but it does not give you any legal reason to justify non-compliance with the rules if you purchase and become a member of the association.

The Rules are just as binding as the bylaws.
