Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maine

Raffle

Is it legal in the state of Maine to hold a raffle to sell a property? In other words, can you sell 3000 tickets at $100.00 each, having one winner, with the winning number wins title to a property valued at $252,000.00?

Re: Raffle

Maine does allow for some types of raffles. Writing contests are often used in conjunction with a raffle ticket. However, your proposed raffle needs to be approved by the Maine Secretary of State (who may confer with the Maine AG) since that is the agency that will check on your raffle's compliance with law. It is best to go right to the source in advance and craft the rules of the raffle to comply.
