How do I get out of my time share ownership legally?

The options are somewhat limited as pre-owned timeshares are often seen as a liability and not an asset, but you can usually work with the association to list and re-market them. You can also donate the timeshare to a charity that can offer it in an auction, if they will accept it. It is also possible to gift the timeshare to someone you know if they are willing to incurr the transfer costs. If you choose to do nothing and try to walk away you will still incurr liability for the dues and assessments.
