Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maine

Entrapment

I was on the Interstate, I passed a camper and got behind a sporty car, and was setting my cruise control. Just as I was setting it, blue lights came on in the car. It was a unmarked car! He gave me a ticket for speeding. He was not going to a call, he was speeding too !!!!!! He got me at 82 in a 65 and he must have been going aleast 85 or more. He gave me the ticket and backed up to get someone else. I felt like he should get a ticket too. I contested it!! Would like to know if he wasn't going to a call, doesn't he have to follow the rules too???? I never passed him, he was in front of me, till he hit the blue light and pulled off the interstate to give me the ticket.

Re: Entrapment

You may contest your violation but you cannot use the fact that he was speeding as a cushion. It needs to be dealt with separately.

Re: Entrapment

The police are subject to the same laws you are, and speeding without an emergency purpose is not proper. His transgression won't forgive yours, however, and if you were speeding then you are guilty regardless of his violation. That is a separate matter and should be taken up in a separate context.
