Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Maine
rights of decedents only living heirs
my wife would like to have access to the banking records of her late grandfather. We suspect his care givers of perhaps helping themselves to his assets before his death. We have a letter from him that causes these suspicions. We are wondering what would be the proper legal next step.

The best way to get the information is to start a probate proceeding, and then as the administrator/executor request the bank to provide the bank records.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

There are many factors that would need to be evaluated before I could give you much helpful information to this specific question, so a more detailed email from you and telephone call may be in order if you so choose. There is a process of obtaining discovery with Court authority without filing a lawsuit to determine if good grounds exist (based upon the banking records) to proceed. Thanks you - Jerome Gamache
