what does it mean to be an heir, but

not be listed in the will?

An heir is someone who would be entitled to a share of the estate if there was no Will- ie- the statute of intestacy applied. If there is a Will, and an heir is not listed in that Will, and the Will is approved by the Court, that heir will not be entitled to anything, but if the Will is not valid, that heir will get a share according to Maine Law.
