Legal Question in Disability Law in Maryland

many yrs after buying a terrace level condo I became disabled needing either two canes, a wheelchair, or a scooter to get around. can my condo assoc. deny me permission to build a wheelchair/scooter ramp from my terrace level entrance to the sidewalk if i build it at my own expense and get all necessary building permits?

It depends. You fail to state whether your terrace level condo has reasonable access to a terrace level hallway that can accommodate your two canes, wheelchair, or scooter to get around. If that hallway leads to an exit to the sidewalk, you are probably out of luck. The Association's Declaration probably gives it the right to restrict any improvements to the property by any private owner unless first approved. As long as the Association complies with the minimum ADA rules by giving you access out to the sidewalk from your unit (say through an interior hallway), the Association is under no obligation to go above and beyond that and allow you to take an action that may, in their opinion, not be appealing.
