clearing bankruptcy from credit reports

I filed personal bankruptcy and now 7 years have elapsed. Can I now and how do I remove this from my credit report/history.

Bankruptcy filings stay on credit reports for up to 10 years. It will drop off automatically at that point.

The Federal Fair Debt Reporting Act governs such issues. It provides that credit reporting agencies may report bankruptcies for 10 years. After that point, they may not report them as public records and they must be dropped from reports. Your confusion regarding the 7 year interval arises from the fact that other types of negative credit information (for example - unpaid accounts and judgments) can only be reported for 7 years. Bankruptcies are different and the reporting period is longer.
