Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Maryland
Can I file bankruptcy after debt consolidation
I am in the process of separating from my husband and consequently thinking about filing for bankruptcy to wipe out my huge debt and being able to make a fresh start. My problem is that I applied for a debt consolidation loan for all my credit card bills (I didn't think I would be approved) and was approved last week. If I decide to file bankruptcy do I have to wait for a certain amount of time so that it doesn't look like I'm trying to do something fraudelent with the loan?

As long as you haven't paid the credit cards yet, cancel the loan and file; you shouldn't have any problems unless you've made significant charges on the credit cards in the last 90+ days.
I have a sizeable bankruptcy practice and would be happy to discuss this matter with you in more detail. Please feel free to call me at (301) 924-4400.
