Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland
Business is closed
I had a business that closed last year 12-31-05 and I now have a client who says there fireplace is not working correctly and wants me to fix it and pay for it - it was installed over a year ago now.
Am i responsible - im no longer in business -

If you were operating this business as a sole proprietor or a general partnership, you can't escape responsibility for your work simply by going out of business. If you didn't do the work correctly, or if the product was defective, the customer could sue you for the cost of correcting the problem if he must hire another business to do the work. If you were operating as a corporation or as a limited liability company, you couldn't be sued for breach of contract, although if you performed the work negligently, you might still be personally liable on that basis.
