Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland
Design gone awry
My previous employer is suing me for a
graphic design job I accepted from one
of her clients. I did the work off the
clock, at home. Does she have grounds
to sue me?

Re: Design gone awry
It depends on what, if any, understanding you had with the former employer. I'll assume for the moment that there was no specific agreement or understanding as to your right to do this kind of work "off the clock". If the nature of the project was essentially the same as the work you were doing for the employer, you were in effect competing with her and taking business away from her, since you acknowledge that this was her client. So she may very well have a good case against you under those circumstances.
