Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

Use of fictitious name for business

Is it legal for an individual to use a fictitious name for privacy reasons when engaged in non-incorporated business (like when actors use stage names)? I'm speaking of a fictitious personal name, not business name.

I'm aware that the business name must be registered with the state; can the fictitious personal name be registered in the same way and used legally?

Are there other legal issues, and on what statute(s) does one rely if challenged?

You can use a fictitious name as long as your intent is not to defraud.

A ficticious name can be adopted for a corporation or other legal entity. Ultimately a person in real interest is needed to comply with legal requirements for banking and other matters such as taxes. Contact an attorney.
