Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland
Possible Lawsuit
I watched a 6 month old baby for a week and they paid me $225 for 45 hours. The next week the family went on vacation and paid me the same for that week even though I was not working for them that week. The monday of the week they came back I told them I will not be able to come back the next day because I have found other work. They are threating to sue me if I do not give the money back for the week they were away. Can they sue me for $225 which was in cash and I never signed a contract of any kind?

Re: Possible Lawsuit
If you were paid for work you didn't do, then why should you be entitled to be paid? It's probably unlikely that they will sue you over that amount of money, but if you might need a reference from them in the future, or if they can otherwise impede your ability to get hired by others in the neighborhood, it might be in your best interest, as well as being morally correct, to return the money.
