In order to be legally binding, does a contract have to be in writing?

Re: Legally Binding contracts
Certain matters are enforceable with an oral contract. Other matters, such as the sale of real estate, are required to be in writing. A written contract is usually a good practice as it not only lends to enforcement but also ensures that the parties are clear as to the agreement.
