If a man bought a diamond ring, gave it to his wife and she later discovered it was a fake, can she sue?

no--this was presumably a gift and therefore she gave up nothing. If the seller represented to the husband that it was a diamond when they knew or should have known otherwise, he might have a claim against the seller.
