Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

My Mother signed a contract with Yellowbook Sales back in 2004 for advertising of the family business (which was owned by her). Yellowbook had a very small, fine print, that basically said that if the contract wasn't cancelled in writing, it would carry over to the next year. That was fine at the time, but isn't there a limitation on that kind of contract? They claim that the contract carried over through 2010. My mother passed away in August of 2010. They just garnished my fathers business account this morning, that is not linked to my mother, or her social security number. Is that legal?

Contracts can automatically carry over from year to year. If you noticed it back in 2004, or 2005 (the first year it automatically switched over), why wasn't it terminated and re-negotiated? The contract likely did carry over to 2011. If your mother passed away in August 2010, then her estate must deal with these matters. It's impossible to say how your father's account was hit, because you don't give any information about his relationship to the business/contract.
