Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland
I recieved a contract stating I would get a 10,000 sign on bonus. There was nothing written that if I left within a certain amount of time-I wouldnt get paid. I turned in my notice and they stopped payment on my check. Is there a law?

I'm surprised to hear that the contract contained no provision requiring you to stay for a certain period of time to qualify for the bonus--that's unusual. But if that's the case, unless you left so soon that it was obvious you had no intention of providing any services to the company, you ought to be able to enforce that provision. This would be a matter of contract law, not a statute.
