Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

Returning Merchandise

I purchased some items from a junk yard about six months ago in MD. My mechanic could not use them. The parts were delivered to me and I did not have a vehicle to bring them back to the junk yard. My reciept has a warranty and does not specify a time frame. I tried to return the parts and they would not take them back. The total of the bill was just under 500.00. I was wondering if there is any type of time frame on returning merchandise by law in MD. I returned the parts in the same condition as they were delivered to me.

Thanks!

Re: Returning Merchandise

There is no law which requires a merchant to accept return of merchandise from the customer. Typically, a merchant will have a conspicuous sign indicating its return policy, or it will be stated on the invoice or sales receipt. If the policy allows returns, then the merchant would be obligated to honor that policy. If there is any doubt at the the time of purchase, you should of course have inquired as to the junkyard's policy. I suspect "all sales final" is the standard for this type of business, unlike more traditional businesses such as chain stores, etc.
