Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland
Rules for business using Trading As
In Maryland what is the law for a company to trade as another company? Does company A need to be a separate company and use company B license? Or does company A need to be licensed also?

If you have a need to open seperate business entities you should contact an attorney.
There is no requirement for separate licenses however there are advantages for doing so. You should protect trade names through registration. Tax matters often dictate over this type of situation. Although there are administrative costs associated with having two licenses, liability matters may also be present.

You don't need separate licenses but you should register your "trading as" name with the Dept. of Assessments and Taxation to protect yourself from being usurped. For further information, you can contact the department at 410 767-1340 or log on to its website, www.dat.state.md.us
