Sale of an art print

We sold an art print to a ''gallery'' in June 2007. The owner has yet to pay and is now avoiding all phone calls. He runs this business out of his home. What are our options for getting him to pay what we agreed upon for the art print? (We agreed to $1000)

Write him a letter saying that if he doesn't pay you within x days, you will sue him in small claims court. Advise him that once you get a judgment you can subpoena him to court to publicly disclose the nature and location of his bank accounts and other assets, and to give you copies of his financial records. The judgment will also be picked up by the credit bureaus and be a stain on his credit record. Perhaps this will provide sufficient motivation to get him to pay.

How was the items sold (i.e., verbal or written contract)? Now that he has possession what do you have to prove it's value? Contact me should you require legal representation.
