Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

Signing a non compete. My employer wants me to sign non compete. This is for 5 years after my employement is up. I must notify them of my new employers. I've signed others but only for 1 year. Is this legal?

Any attorney will say non competes must be reasonable in time and geographic scope to be enforceable. You did not mention the type of employment, which is a factor affecting the others as well. Putting aside whether it is ultimately enforceable or not, what will your employer do if you refuse to sign? That's probably the most critical issue to deal with. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.
