Work restriction imposed on a statutory employee
As a statutory employee of a medical transcription company, can an employer prevent you from working by placing you on a work restriction of only 5-10 reports a day, thus prevening you from generating much of an income?

Re: Work restriction imposed on a statutory employee
Your employer has the right to control its workplace and to assign whatever duties to you that it deems appropriate. What has happened to you is akin to an employer laying off people or reducing their hours due to the lack of work available. Unless you have some kind of agreement with the employer that stipulates your entitlement to a certain level of income or work activity, or this is a union situation that might protect you, I doubt there's much you can do. You might want to check with people in state government who regulate the wage and hour laws just to see if there may be some regulation that protects you or if this merits some investigation or inquiry on their part.
