Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Maryland
Facial hair not allowed for Correctional Officers
I am a Correctional Officer in Maryland, I want to know if you can tell me if my employer can tell me how I have to groom my face? We are only allowed to have a mustache and side burns not to exceed the ear lobe, unless you have a permission slip from a doctor allowing a beard, which I have. I prefer a goatee and mhy employer only allows you to have a 5 o'clock shadow.
Is there anything I can do or any law that covers this?
Thank you,

Re: Facial hair not allowed for Correctional Officers
The medical requirement is for people who have serious problems with in-grown har, it's not a style issue. A goatee is a style issue.
