Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Maryland
fertility treatments
I have a condition that I would need fertility treatments to get pregnet. I don't want to involve my boyfriend. Every treatment center I call says they have to do tests on him. I know there is nothing wrong with him. So is it legal for me to get treatments if your single and don't want to involve a man? Can I just go get the treatments by myself?

Re: fertility treatments
The answer really depends on what type of treatments you are going to receive and why you need them in the first place. Have you asked the clinics why they need to test your boyfriend? Is there a medical reason for that? Perhaps they want to eliminate him as the source of your infertility. I assume that your boyfriend is going to be the sperm donor; if not, it makes no sense for the clinics to involve him at all. In any event, you should think through the legal raminfications of your actions. If he is the biological father of your child, he will be required by law to support that child until the child is 18--that is getting involved!
