Victim Rights

I am a victim of ID Fraud. I filled out necessary paper work to give a victim witness statement, and contacted the states att. office with request to testify. Was not given notification of hearing, was not given the right to testify. I requested court transcripts, judge was not informed that I wanted to tesify. In fact judge was told I suffered no lose. I was never asked. I want do to something about this, what good is the victim witness program if this is how witness' are represented? Has the law been broken by this action?

Re: Victim Rights

First of all, I am sorry about your loss. I have handled ID Theft cases before. You can contact the State's Attorney's Office and speak to a Supervising Attorney of that Unit - then document your conversation with a confirmatory "thank you letter." You may also file an application with the Maryland Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (w/in 180 days of your discovery of the Fraud/Crime). A Lawyer Can be helpful also to file a Civil Lawsuite against the perpetrator and if appropriate, to repair your credit. I can meet with you for a free consultaion. My Hourly Rate thereafter would be $250/hr if you wish to go forward. I wish you the best of luck in dealing with this stressful situation.

Re: Victim Rights

A criminal prosecution is separate from your own private suit against the ID thief. ID theft is a crime and a violation of civil law, but I can not comment much because you provided no facts on the theft itself.
