Legal Question in Construction Law in Maryland
Contractor needs help
I am licensed in Maryland. Homeowners took me and my unlicensed subcontractor to court over a concrete patio we put in. There were two separate contracts one with me and one with him and homeowners to put stone over my concrete patio. Judge decided we were working as partners and placed a 10,000 judgement against both of us together. Since the sub didn't show in court and is unlicensed I know the homeowners will come to me. I have tried to contact them to start making payments or settle for a one time lessor amount but they won't respond. I think they want to wait until my appeal time is over and then collect thru MHIC. My question is I think the judge awarded her more than her loss (she only paid $4,250.00 for the patio), even with the cost of removal of my patio. Will the MHIC let me plead my side since there is already a judgement against me? What about the amount being more than actual costs? Will the MHIC still pay even though the judgement is against me and an unlicensed contractor jointly? Also will they pay from the fund even though I am trying to pay the homeowner myself but she refuses my payment plans? Should I just start sending her money to show I'm trying to pay off my debt?
Thanks.

Re: Contractor needs help
Hopefully you raised these issues at trial. If so, and you still have time to file a motion for reconsideration, I would do this immediately.
