Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland

new car purchase

I purchased a car on 4-21-03. The cars appearance was altered during prep. they added a license plate to the front drilling holes. I live in a state that does not use front plates. they refuse to correct their error. It has been less than 48 hours. Is there a right of recision involved here , or must I keep this car. I no longer desire to have this car and would like to cancel this purchase. please help. Thank you, Roxanne.

Re: new car purchase

Unless the contract provides a right of cancellation, it is a valid contract that cannot be terminated at your will, that is there is no 3-day cooling off period. The 3-day period you speak of is limited to certain sales such as door-to-door sales. If, however, the financing terms or other aspect of the contract is not final then you are not bound even if you signed a purchase order or other document. If you took delivery and it is a new car, this may not apply.

Sorry to tell you that the 3-day cooling off period does not apply but I hope this helps. The dealer may need to replace the bumper as they drilled holes in it.
