Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland

I currently have Comcast service for TV and internet. I paid my bill on 1/19 and received a confirmation number and showed that I had a balance of zero. I came home yesterday and noticed that Comcast turned off my services without any notification. I called up the number and everyone was very rude and said that for some reason my payment never went through. I asked why I was never notified and they said it is not their job to notified customers if their payment was not received. I then ask why was my account never updated to show that I owe money and she could not answer that question. She just said that we now owe 50 more dollars on top of our bill if we wanted them to turn the service back on. I also never received any bill from Comcast for February to show that I owe them money or to state that they will be turning off my service.

Comcast is right. If you gave them payment (say a check) over the phone and that check bounced, it's not their responsibility to call you and tell you that. It's your responsibility to keep up with your own finances. If I were you, I would threaten to switch companies unless they drop the $50 fee. That often works. If not, pay the fee, learn your lesson, and move on with life. This issue is too minor to go to court over.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.********
