Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland
verbal quote
I was given a verbal quote of $979.99 on a piece of furniture. I asked the salesman twice if he was sure this was the correct price and he told me yes both times. After discussing with my wife I went in the next day to write a check and was told by the salesman that he made a mistake and the price was actually $2399.99. Do I have any recourse?

Re: verbal quote
No. You had no contract, nor did you have what is defined in law as a firm offer.
Nor did you have an option to buy at the price for which you paid consideration. There was
no writing to memorialize the contract (not that one would be required in this instance)but such a writing may
have availed you of recourse. This is a unilateral mistake, one that, had there been a contract or firm offer, may
avail the offeror to revoke the offer. However, you have no recourse not because of the unilateral mistake but because you had no contract or firm offer.
