Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland

won case - judgement shows up in my record!

I was sued by a mechanic after I got rid of my car because he left some items in the car. He did not win the case, however the judgement shows up when I apply to refinance my home. Why, and what do I have to do the have this removed from my financial records?

If the judgment shows up incorrectly as if you lost, when in fact you won, contact all 3 major credit bureaus to dispute this mistake, preferably by certified mail if they do not respond the first time.

If you won and your credit report(s) show you did not, then you need to correct the credit reports. Ask the mortgage

company which credit report shows the judgment. Contact the credit reporting agency that has the information incorrectly reported and pursue correction.

You should also post notice on the other credit reporting agencies as they may also have reported or be in the process of reporting the same information incorrectly.

Depending on the nature and amount of the claim, you may need to obtain a true copy docket entry showing that you won the case.
