While a judgment creditor has a legal right to collect on its judgment, Maryland law offers some protection from a creditor seizing all your assets. The law will exempt up to $6,000 in property although the exemption is not automatic and you must request that property be exempt. The law imposes strict timelines to seek an exemption so you are encouraged to do this right away. If the judgment was obtained in district court, you can go to the district court and get the appropriate form from the court clerk.
