Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Borrowed money from a relative

My fiance had her aunt as the maid of honor for our wedding. She was having finaincal problems so my finace put her dress on our credit card (around $200). After a week or so of fighting over details about the wedding / bridal shower, they both decided it would be best if she stepped down. She is no longer in the wedding party and she refuses to pay anything (not even half) for the dress she was going to wear. Even though my fiance but it on our card, at the dress shop her aunt signed a paper that said she was responsible and she understands the conditions (no returns / etc). Do we have legal recourse in this matter? Would it be worth goind to small claims court over $200?

Re: Borrowed money from a relative

Your aunt signed a paper saying she would be responsible for what and to whom?

If you aunt signed that she was responsible to pay the dress shop, then why was the amount charged to your credit card?

This writing is important and you should obtain a copy. Certainly a small claim may be filed and it appears that you may prevail with such.

However, recognize that some things, such as family ties and memorable experiences that are not cluttered with sour thoughts, are more important than money. Given the small amount of your loss, you

may want to consider ALL factors before pursuing a small claim.
