Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Garnishment

My primary bank was served a Writ of Garnishment and the plaintiff is directing that my bank hold the sum due. I received a letter from my bank yesterday stating this Writ. What course of action can I take to fight this Writ? I appears that I have 30 days to respond.

Re: Garnishment

You can try to claim the funds as exempt under MD law (depending on amount, or if the account is joint), or federal law if they come from certain sources (social security). If the judgment on which the writ is based is not valid (no service, etc.), then you could attack that as well. You need to consult with a lawyer about your specific situation.
