Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

illegal attornies fees

Hello,

recently I was on disability. I called my homeowners association management company because I was three months behind. I made arrangements to pay the bill and the late fees and I did. I am receiving letters from an attorney who said he is collecting on behalf of the managment company an extra 385.86 dollars in collection cost accrued late fees, interset and attorneys fees on behalf of the management company. He also called me a liar when I told him that I had made verbal arrangements with someone at the managment company to pay the late account, they accepted the agreement, cashed my check and continue to accept my payments. My question is if my late fees have been paid and my account is current where does this attorney come in and can he put a lien on my property, as he says he is going to do, if I dispute the bill and my account is current. He says that I did not make arrangements with the management company and literally called me a liar and told me that I would be an uncrediable witness if he should take me to court, so I better pay these additional fees. I feel this is unfair abuse since I kept to my arrangements, the management company cashed my checks and my account is paid in full. what do I do?

Check your homeowners agreement. It may have a provision about late payments. It may also be important as to did they start to take collection action before you went to them, a fact not clear in your information. - Michael Worsham, [email protected]
