Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

I had an outstanding credit card debt that went to court and the case was dismissed. I sent a copy of the court papers to all the credit bureaus and to the collection company who had the debt and they are saying I am still liable. Am I?

The question is whether the case was dismissed with prejudice - on the merits - or for some procedural reason that did not resolve the case. If it was dismissed because you won - for example, they failed to prove that you owed the debt - then you do not owe the debt and they can't sue you again. In that event, it should come off your credit report. On the other hand, if it was dismissed for bad service of process, or simply voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff, then they can bring it again, and if you owe the debt they can report it.
