Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland
Owed money by a friend
It's been three-years since I've lend money in the sum of $3,500.00 that is still owed to me by a friend. What is the Statute of Limitation in the State of Maryland to recover this money?

Re: Owed money by a friend
The Statue of Limitations in Maryland is generally 3 years. However, this not does mean that it starts accruing from the time you made the loan. It would accrue from the time your friend failed to pay you back. You will probably need to show some proof as to when the loan was due or when payments were supposed to start. You can also use any communication you received alerting you to the fact that your friend would not pay you back. If you had your friend sign some document or otherwise have witnesses about this, you can take the next steps. Otherwise, the Statue of Limitations will probably start when your friend received the money or from when the last payment on the loan was made. Please make sure you know exactly when you made the loan and what supporting documents you have so that you can start a complaint. From the sounds of it, time is of the essence so you need to move fast.
