Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Paid derogatory item in history from old joint account not removed.

I have an item on my credit rating that is derogatory. It is a charge a former girlfriend made and never paid on a joint Discover card I forgot to remove myself from after we broke. Subsequent to our breaking up, I moved away to another country. When I returned nearly two years later, I eventually learned the item was on my report.

One bureau removed the item but the other two have not. I don't know why I was successful at one but not with the others, and would like to know more about it so I can use this to succeed in having the other two bureaus remove the time.

For the bureau that removed it, I have a FICO score of 712. The others have me in the low to mid 600s.

Is there anything I can do.

I would be happy to provide further information. I also have copies of all three credit reports and can answer questions if you need further information.

Hope to hear back,

Michael

If you feel the credit item is being improperly reported, dispute it, and then it should not count towards your credit score. You are also allowed a consumer statement of up to 100 words on each credit report explaining the credit item. Carefully document any communications with the credit reporting agencies.
