Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Pursuing a debt out-of-state

If a tenant who is several months behind in rent moves out of state, what recourse does the landlord have? I believe that the landlord would file suit in the State/County where the property is to get a judgement, but how would the landlord go about collecting on the debt? Would the landlord need to file papers in the jurisdiction where the tenant moved to, in order to collect the judgement?

Re: Pursuing a debt out-of-state

Landlord can certainly sue where the property is, and make the tenant come back if s/he wants to defend. LL then takes the judgment and dockets or domesticates it the state where the tenant lives, works, or otherwise has income or assets, and executes there. MD courts cannot themselves execute a judgment against assets in another state.
