Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland
Okay, so roughly three years ago I was a member at a local gym. I signed up for direct withdrawal from my checkings account. Awhile down the line I didn't have the funds for them to draw from and they blocked my card at the gym. I then told then money is tight and I won't beable to continue to carry my membership and would have to choose to pay the extra money to cancel my membership. Now, two years later I get a bill in the mail saying I owe them $355.00 and I have 30 days to pay it or they'll turn it over to their attorney. I haven't got my bank statements yet, but I'm pretty sure they've been talking money out of my account this entire time and have caused me to overdraft my account on multiple occasiions. Also, since I left the gym I've had to renew my debit card and the old one no longer works. Is what they're doing legit, or am I being taken advantage of ? Thanks.

Depends on the terms of the membership contract you signed with the gym. What does it say?
