Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland
I have been served with papers from a credit card company regarding a debt that I owe to them. I am unclear if I have to go to court or not. The papers make it seem that you only go to court if you are protesting that I owe the amount listed and I know that I do, I just have no income to pay it. Can you tell me if I should go or not?

You should definitely go to court. If you don't, you will get a judgment against you and there will be nothing you can do about it. See my blog entry on the topic:

On the papers you received there should be something called a "notice of intention to defend." Fill this out and file it and be prepared to go to court. At court, you may be able to work out a payment plan or another option that will avoid a judgment. Feel free to email ([email protected]) or call (240.380.0863) if you have any questions.
Good luck.
