Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Statute of Limitations/bad check

I was notified by an law firm of a check that I supposely wrote in June of 1997. The legal rep explained that the check was written on a check issued by Discover credit card. I am unaware of this check as well as Discover not having any record of it in their system and they are pursuing legal action. My first question: Is there a statute of limitations and secondly, how can I determine if it is not fraud if the legal firm will not send me a copy of the check to verify its validity.

Re: Statute of Limitations/bad check

There should be a 4-year statute of limitations. If they sue, they will have to produce the check or a certified copy of it.
