Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
Arrest for Failure to Appear in Court
I was recently arrested for Failure to appear. I was to appear in court for two traffic violations, both were variations of driving on a suspended license. I did not know my license was suspended and I was going to go to court and pleade ''not guilty'' and explain that I did not know the license was suspended, and as soon as I found out I took care of the matter the next business day. My court date came around and my car would not start. I tried to call the court house but no one would talk to me. I could not get a ride to court. The judge issued a warrant for my arrest and I was arrested a few days later. What can I do about this situation?

Re: Arrest for Failure to Appear in Court
Since you were arrested, the Court should automatically set you driving on a suspended license and failure to appear in for a hearing. You should go to court with a lawyer. If you are still in jail, a bail should have been set, if you are not in jail verify that the cases have been re-set. Get a cerified copy of your driving record to show the Judge that the reason for the suspension has been resolved.

You should get a certified copy of your driving record and take it to court with an attorney.
What County is your case pending in ?
Maryland usually does not charge failure to appear as a separate offense.
