arrest warrent

I was caught shoplifting a few weeks ago

i got a nothice to report in person a criminal arrest warrent charging me with violation of md law or court order

the store sent me a fine-what will happen when i go & turn myself in? Will they lock me up? It was only $50.00 and they just let me go. This is a first offence. I was on medication at the time and just wasn't myself please tell me what will happen to me. I am afraid to go

As a general rule, if you were released after being caught shoplifting, the document you received is probably an advice of rights form telling you to get a lawyer, or a trial notice. However you should show it to a lawyer (me for instance) immediately to make sure. If the document is a notice to be served with an arrest warrant, then you really need to see a lawyer (again, try me) who can help you stay out of jail. On a first offense shoplifting, the commissioner would normally release you on your word to appear at your trial.
