assault of a police officer

In trying to break up a fight on the street my friend pushed a undercover cop. He didn't know he was a police officer prior to pushing him away. The cop brutaly cuffed an continued to be rough with him. He even had to be taken to the hospital for being so beat up. He then said shut up or I will arrest you for the coke I put in your pocket. He is now locked up for a couple days. We have atleast 2 witnesses. What can we do?
