Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Bench Warrant

Here is the situtation, my ex and i went to court he gained custody not because i was unfit, because he lived in MD and I moved out of state. anyhow my question is this, i received a court paper telling me that he was suing me for child support, in the paper it said you do not have to appear but you have to send the court a written response which i did * i did not get the paper until two weeks before the court date* I couldnt get a leave from work that fast, anyhow my ex called me and said there was a bench warrant out for failure to appear, how can this be when the letter stated your presence is not required if you sent back a response? I live 700 miles away so its not like a day trip. when i called to see if one was issued of course they said come and find out. i explained where i lived they said oh well you have to come here.please dont say get a lawyer as im just making it now on what i earn. thank you.

i have to say this, the judical system in cecil county is really bad. the judge did not want to hear that he beat our oldest daughter with a belt leaving bruises he just said it was dicipline, nor did he care when he was told that he went after his stepson with a claw hammer *because the step was of age*geez who elects them?

Re: Bench Warrant

You say a bench warrant has been issued by the Judge. You need to contact the Judge and tell him that you mailed back the child support information, so that he can lift the bench warrant. You say, don't tell me to get a lawyer, but if you had a lawyer you would not be in this situation. As it is now, should you be stopped in your State by the police, they will arrest you if there is a warrant outstanding.
